PKML: Personal Knowledge Markup Language

  • A family of mark-up languages used to create cognitive and learning resources in notetaking, journaling and other scenarios. Think of PKML of a tool to create dynamic and evolving knowledge interfaces which are embedded directly in personal notes, writings or in personal copies of other resources.

  • PKML is designed to provide new opportunities to interact with knowledge. To work with and experience it aesthetically, emotionally, creatively, socially, developmentally, ergonomically and opportunistically. To create a space around it for our minds to visit and spend time. To develop our unique relationship to it. To shape it for use in visualizations, art, games, brainstorming, review and sharing. To experience it over time: to learn, relearn, visit and revisit. To build maps, to mark paths, to set up signposts, to create exploration depots, to point out scenic vantage points and vistas. To explore, model and express our internal representation of it and it’s place in our thinking, memory and experience of life.
